8)My Internet appears to be working okay.
However, some sites will not allow to log in.
Emucation and Emureactor are sites my son wants
to visit, but log in is not working. ??? :’
I have these in my trusted sites and in Zone Alarm, so they
are not blocked.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Have checked WinPatrol/Cookies and there are Cookies
for the sites in question.
I am running Zone Alarm free. I do not have options for Cookie
handling for individual sites.
Running Spyware Blaster. I have Snapshots , which I may need to play with.
I mention this as I’ve been using Tune Up Utilities 2004 to tweak
and clean and fear that maybe I’ve broken something (this is unlikely ) but I can use the back ups in rescue center.I’m not an expert. I’m trying to be logical and fishing for ideas here.
As I said before I’m running XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2, IE 6.
I will now try enabling Cookies for these sites through Internet Explorer.
Obviously I have to check through quite a few things.
I’m thinking ZA and Avast Web Shield incompatablility; and checking if I’ve done something wrong with TuneUpUtilities2004.
I would think seeing I’m logged in here, and , with the passing of time, and the fact that I do have Cookies as verified by looking at WinPatrol, and my temp files, that Cookies are enabled.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated before I make any drastic adjustments and as you can see I’m already feeling like I’m out of my depth here.
To me, it seems there is either something missing , i.e; me checking backups from cleanups, and restore. Or something needs to be fixed/removed with Hijack This. I will attempt a HijackThis log analysis.
It should not be for a ‘specific’ site. Are you trying to log into a security site (https)?
Most probably not.
Cookies seems to be ok.
Can you try to disable WebShield provider and try to logon?
After that, disabling NetShield and ScriptBlocker (if you have Pro version), will it help?
If you change your browser for another, will it help?
Thanks Techncal. I have now turned off Zone Alarm Free as terminating Avast! Web Sheild Provider alone did not help. I’ve set all Internet Explorer zones to default settings. I’ve gone through all the tests I’ve listed above and will check out other firewalls and browsers. ???
Interestingly, without Avast!websheildProvider and ZA things are working a lot better. This is a a clue. The XP Firewall will have to do for the moment, plus I’m scanning with Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot SD.
Thanks for your interest , and I’ll let you know how things work out.

Technical it seems to log in to a site, in the Internet Zone, I have to either disable ZoneAlarm; try logging in, and it will sometimes Login. Alternatively if I can't login I disable Avast! webshield. I've basically got a situation were I'm toggling the two, and one or the other is allowing me to login.
I've had trouble with ZoneAlarm before, where it had to be manually un-installed ???. Like I had to search and delete all the Registry entries. I feel as I've had the trial version of "proZA" and gone after its expiry to the freeware version that the settings have ben retained from ZA PRO, and now they aren't suitable with ZA FREE. I want to Delete ZA, and do a clean install of the free ZA, so the Pro settings will be deleted , but I hope the whole thing doesn't become a nightmare again :(
I'm not sure about changing browsers, as it seems like a huge undertaking... ???
I’m experiencing some difficulty to login into Web Mail sites…
I hope that Lukas (from Alwil) could help me and then we can ‘find’ some solution for you too…
Thanks Technical, hopefully some good news is on the horizon. As a less than advanced user I don’t want to panic, changing too many system applications. I appreciate your interest and hope we can get this problem resolved.
Good luck, and best wishes.
