Please forgive my english are not so good!
Before when i was starting my computer my protection virus programm avast was activeted automaticly and it was doing updating automaticly now i can not see the icon down on the down right where the clock is …where i can go to windows and activate it again when i turn on my pc my andvirus programm was starting and downloading automaticly new updates alone now it is not doing anything of that and i do not have the icon near the clock …how can i manage to fix this litle mess???
I am trying a week to fix it!if you know something please answer to me i realy will apreciat it! 
avast! icon missing - As a temporary measure you can create a desktop shortcut for this file C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashDisp.exe (the avast icon and interface to the providers). Right click on the file and select Send To, Desktop (create shortcut).
What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc. ?
Check the option in the Appearance tab of Program Settings.
What avast processes are running in task manager they begin with ash or asw (see image).
Paulina, please check if your licence has expired.
Licence expiry shouldn’t cause the icon to go missing, just you can’t update the virus signature file.

I went were you have told me C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashDisp.exe but not found any file named ashDisp.exe was nothing in there ending exe!!!dont know why!
I am not using any other security programm never load or download anything because i was very happy with avast and the way it was working automaticly!so the only security i have is avast!and i realy dont know if it is working properly in case i have to download something!remeber once i was downloading something and bells and wornings came on from avast!now nothing!something is going on but i realy dont know what it is!i have found some virus in the chest i have delete them i thing it was nothing strong and so bad to hurt my pc!

Kai Spyro efharisto patriotaki! em, i will talk in elnglish and spryro since i have order my pc the man who fixed it or better bild it he have put the programms here and he told me that avast it will not need anything else it will be updated by it self!dosent have any licence…as far i know! :-\

It needs re-registration once a year.
Please also try a repair of avast. Go to “add/remove programs” click the “remove” button and when avast pops-up, click on “repair”. You have to be online to do this.

You can register for free again, the reason for re-registration is to give Alwil an idea of active users so they can plan server support for Updates, etc.
A repair should have restored the missing ashDisp.exe, did it ?
The repair however, is very unlikely to work in getting the icon in the system tray.
There are other ways to get the icon back but they require either editing the registry or creating a link to ashdisp.exe in your startup folder. I’m not sure how comfortable you might be with these so it may possibly be best/easier to re-install, see below.
Since the repair doesn’t work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.
It would probably be best to first re-register and get a new registration key sent to you and download the latest version of avast and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall. When you have received the new registration key in the email then re-install.

Now the repair have not restore the ashDisp.exe and the missing icon!
I dont think i am able to creat a link of ashdisp.exe in the start up folder dont think i can realy manage it!
so i will try to unistall and reinstall it again!
but one question before i do unistall it! I have not any dvd with any programm of avast i have bought it and the man havent give me anything with avast you think that i mid need a dvd with avast programm?or i must unistal it totaly from my pc and go to avast page and download it?
Were you on-line when you tried the repair, it should have found that ashDisp.exe was missing and replaced it ?
I don’t wish to imply that you didn’t do this or that you didn’t look in the correct folder for the file, but can you please double check and confirm this ?
It is important as I don’t want to have you reinstall if you have the Pro version if at all possible.

You should have been sent an email with your registration key, if you still have that and it is still in date you should be OK, what date was the email sent to you ?
avast! doesn’t come on DVD, you download the setup file, which can be downloaded again.
If you have the ashDisp.exe file then this would be preferable to a reinstall of the Pro version.
Create Startup entry for ashDisp.exe - This is the startup folder location “C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup” navigate to this in windows explorer and you may see some shortcuts already here. Right click in the right hand window and select, New, Shortcut, a window will pop-up either paste this C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashDisp.exe path or click the Browse button and navigate to the the ashDisp.exe file. See images.

The Home version is free so you shouldn’t have been charged for it.
If you go to the Start, All Programs, avast! Antivirus, avast! Antivirus, this will start the memory check and start the on-demand interface, right click this skin ans select about avast! this will tell you what version you have.

i dont know how to make a picture of the file so you may see it also! it have alla the ash exept the one we are looking for!!! ashDisp.exe everything i can see at your picture i found it in the file you have saw to me! i am going to do now again a repair and will be back in minet!
yes i am asking if it need a dvd because it is a programm and i never had an original programm from where i bought it!thats why i am askig!he just put in my pc and i dont know if it is a copy programm or original thats what i was asking!

With the home edition, no doubt, download the latest version, re-register, get a new key and reinstall, as outlined in my previous post it should be quicker in the long term.
