Please post instructions for users on Andriod Pin Recovery

I just downloaded the android app on my phone and there seems to be no way to get past the Enter Avast Pin page. It says PIN Recovery not set. Please set the recovery phone number in the settings.
It seems like many others are having this same problem

You need to configure (set) a phone number (other than yours) that could receive a temporary (30 minutes) PIN of your avast! installation in case you’ve forgot it.

How do you get into set the PIN when it can’t get into the application. You cann’y get pass the prompt unless you have set the PIN.

Hi,

that is correct, you should set the recovery phone number around the same time you set your PIN in case you want to use it. We currently don’t enforce it since it seems a lot of people just don’t want to use it.

Filip

fixed it. thanks guys.

Hi Pilip,

that isn’t a lot of help saying you set the phone number when you set the PIN without giving us instructions as it doesn’t ask for a phone number when you install it just tells you the PIN isn’t set?!?!

Hi,

if you uninstall both Mobile Security AND Anti-Theft, it won’t ask you for PIN upon Mobile Security installation (= Mobile Security doesn’t ask for PIN during first setup).

Filip

OK, so how do you uninstall BOTH mobile security and anti-theft. Remember that we can’t get past the screen asking us to register a PIN recovery number, so we can’t get into mobile security and guess what … we can’t even associate our device and do it from the web.

Hello,

Mobile Security and Anti-Theft don’t send the avast! PIN to our servers and there is no master key for security reasons. Many customers remembered their PIN with the information, that it’s 4-6 digits, only numbers.
If the device is already locked, proceed to Solution 2.
If you still have access to the device, proceed with Solution 1.

Solution 1:
You can try to uninstall. Be aware that the PIN is only reset if you uninstall avast! Mobile Security AND Anti-Theft.

To unistall avast! just follow steps below (note that if you have set avast! Anti-theft as a device admin then uninstallation will not work for Anti-theft):

  • Open ‘Settings’ from All Apps screen in your Android phone.

  • Select the option ‘Applications’, then ‘Manage Applications’.

  • Select the option with disguise-name (custom application name) you chose for avast! Anti-Theft during the installation process.

  • On the next screen ‘Uninstall’ and then ‘OK’ to confirm uninstallation of disguised avast! Anti-Theft.

  • Once the uninstallation of avast! Anti-Theft is complete select ‘OK’ to get back to Manage Applications screen.

  • Select the option ‘avast! Mobile Security’.

On the next screen ‘Uninstall’ and then ‘OK’ to confirm unistallation of disguised avast! Anti-Theft.

Once the uninstallation of avast! Free Mobile Security is complete select ‘OK’ to get back to Manage Applications screen.

Solution 2:

Boot your phone into Safe Mode. The Safe Mode is a mode, where downloaded and installed apps aren’t executed in the system. That’s why the phone won’t lock.
Since booting into safe mode works different on most phones, I can only recommend a google search like “safe mode ”. On my device I have to turn
off the device, turn it back on and press the menu button repeatedly during the startup animation.
Once you’re in Safe Mode, follow Solution 1.
Hint: if the device is locked, you need to press the on/off button for 10-20 seconds to turn off the device.

If you don’t manage to get into Safe Mode, all I can recommend is to hard reset your device.
Google how to do this: “hard reset ”

for further information you can also consult our manual available at:

give it a try - it’s short and easy to understand.
