Please remove the pop up warning about Avast Virus Def is outdated.

Today i got an annoying pop up from avast stating that my def is outdated even i unchecked the STATUS BAR Virus def, program def, def auto updates.

Settings is:

  1. Avast Update setting is manual update.
  2. Avast Status Bar Virus def, program def, def auto updates are uncheck.
  3. Deep Freeze

Please dont ask me why i turn off updates.

The annoying part is that it always pop ups upon starting windows.

Perhaps a better request would be “Please >>give me the option to<< remove the pop up warning about Avast Virus Def is outdated”…since I know most people want to know when the Defs are outdated.

does this help. settings > updates > details

Please dont ask me why i turn off updates.
why not.....as we are surprised every time we see it so we would like to know what the good reason is. ???

Actually it has a option to disable that pop ups and ive been using that for 2 years already.

  • Avast Status bar by unchecking the box (Virus def, program def, def auto updates).

*Setting > Updates > Detail has no option for disable that pop ups.

The reason for not updating the latest virus def?

  1. The cheat program is always detect as malware as this computer is used for gaming purposes.
  2. Avast causing some games FP mostly behavior shield.

Again this appear today.

A good info Virtual software like deepfreeze which fully virtualized the OS is an enemy of Daily Updates.

well…if they are false positives, then they want go away by not updating
files detected as false positve should be uploaded to avast so they can fix the FP…and send out new update with the fix

also you can check your program at www.virustotal.com

Im not updating because my virus def now has no FP with the games and cheat tools.

The cheat program is detected as hacktools, malwares, blah blah blah by some other AV’s

My virus def now avast is not detecting it =)

Tried already updating and the cheat cant be used =(

why not just use deep freeze alone? since not keeping avast up to date is almost as if theres no antivirus protection to start with.

sry if this does not ans ur qn.

note that i am not recommending u to be without an antivirus, but rather to me an antivirus has to be updated, if not dun bother installing it in the 1st place.

edit: settings → updates → details → (uncheck all checked items as shown in the screenshot)

Try this: Settings → Popups → Alert popups → 0 seconds. But then you get also no popup if eg. an virus or suspicious program was found…

I have found a fix for avoiding the pop ups by choosing the Avast Update Parameters and check the “I only connect to the internet using a dial up modem”. But the true is i am using a modem with router that no dialing for connecting. No side affect of this?

The good news is No more pop ups in starting Windows.

My question is? is their a side affect of this? i mean will this settings affect my Internet Speed Connection and Latency of the games? or this setting is only affected by Avast software only.

Why would anyone “not” want to keep their anti-virus updated? I like to have as much protection as possible.
If you keep using avast without the the latest vps you run the risk of infection. IMHO having a pop-up is a very
small price to pay for the protection. You have a choice to either set the time of pop-up lower or click on the “x”
on the pop-up. Personally I recommend using auto-updates along with streaming updates. The risk is too high to
do otherwise. Of course, I like an infection free computer.

Well, the OP has Deep Freeze , and considers this his/her primary infection tool. So I can see how one could consider updating as less important.

Though really, his primary reason for not wanting to are somewhat less…ethical.

I was thinking the same thing. Redundancy is not a bad idea. It is far better to be safe than sorry.
Gee, I wonder what the OP is doing to require Deep Freeze. Or at least how often he/she uses Deep Freeze.
If it’s quite often they should re-evaluate their surfing practices.

Speaking of which, these two settings:

[ ] I only connect to the Internet using a dial up modem
[ ] My computer is permanently connected to the Internet

If both options are selected, isn’t that a contradiction? And if so, wouldn’t using Radio buttons make more sense?

Most users prefer the GUI as it is now. The keyword is “Resident” protection. Prevention is much better than “whoops”, better
do a reset.

I’m not following you. I’m not talking about changing the entire GUI, level of protection or amount of prevention. I’m speaking of two options that from their description suggest that they are a contradiction and when options conflict, usually Radio buttons are used. For example, is she pregnant? According to Avast the answer can be written as follows:

[√] Yes
[√] No

The correct way would be to use Radio buttons. Again, is she pregnant?

o Yes
• No

Only one option is allowed to be selected because there is only one possible answer.

Having a Yes/No answer like this would require one of them to be set by default (even on installation).

With both options unchecked, it would be able to find the connection method. But I agree both shouldn’t be allowed to be checked.

I agree and thought about including a third choice, “I don’t know” or something similar. In the end I decided to create the example with the same amount of choices currently available in Avast. However, using a third choice might go something like this:

Current Avast, is she pregnant?

[√] Yes
[√] No
[√] Not sure

Future Avast, is she pregnant?

o Yes
• No
o Not sure

Well the two left unchecked (as in the default setting) is effectively I don’t know.
