HI ALL
PLEASE HELP ME I HAVE AVAST 5 BUT WITH OUT KEY!!![/b]
What version of avast 5 do you have there are three, Free/Pro/Suite ?
Free version can be registered online through Avast.
Pro and Internet suite have to be paid for, and they will send you a licence file by email to insert, so make sure that you supply the correct email address.
If you are looking to run the full versions by pirating them, nobody here will help you.
And you don’t need to shout by typing everything in CAPS!
regards, Gizbar.
I bought Pro and they sent me a key…however every time I try to open it I get a message saying 'windows does not know which programme created this file and so it refuses to open…the manufacturer is no help at all.anyone else had this problem or have advice?
YOu need to instal Avast first, before open the the key file. It will have the Avast icon after you install avast
You don’t need to open the file, install avast first. It should ask for the license file, point it to where you saved the license file on your hard disk. Or open the avast User Interface (UI) by left clicking on the avast tray icon, Select Maintenance, Register, click the enter license button, see image. This may differ slightly as mine is the free version and obviously ids in English, but the general layout should be the same.

he’ll never post again, he was just asking for illegal keys, here ;D
I think we suspected that, but it is called giving the benefit of doubt ;D
illegal keys! :o
how bad!
here in russia we never use illegal softwares & i heared china too ;D
Much obliged David R…I ‘think’ I have it installed…except (there is always an except)…The Logo has an x on it and it tells memy anti virus system is insecured. Also, though all the sheilds appear to be up the firewall refuses to acknowledge me. It’s all very confusing. I wish I had downloaded the free avast…then I could have enjoyed saying.stuff it.
However…should I just go back to downloading the free programme…will IT be a firewall? So many questions, so little time,so many viruses,so much slime…am I Martin Luther,I can’t take ANY MORE…i AINT NAILIN NONE OF MA WORMS TO NO DOOR ANY MORE,GOIN ON A DIET,YEAH,GET THIN,STOP BEIN A VAST BEIN.
Dylanic, there is NO firewall in the free version. It is just an Antivirus package.
As for the rest of your post, ??
regards, Gizbar.
@ Dylanic
Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
As that is a common cause of the red X over the avast icon you mention, installing the free version wont change that.
If you open the avast User Interface (UI) by left clicking the icon, it should show the Summary, Current Status, click the Show Details button and tell us what area is unsecured ?
It may just be that it is your license not having been entered, which hopefully should be difficult to resolve.
@ Dylanic

I beleive he means should NOT be difficult to resolve.
btw… @ Dlyanic, I commend you on not taking offense to suggestions of illegal license key looking 8) it seems you understand why they may have thought that
Yes, it should have been “should NOT be difficult to resolve,” too much haste less speed ;D
I also can not get my key for avast 5, i did not install the license key before the 7 days were up. any suggestions/solutions to this?! Can I unistall and reinstall the software?
What version of avast have you free or Pro ?
If Pro have you purchased the license ?
If so have you received your email with the license file attached ?
You can’t simply uninstall and reinstall if this is the pro version as the anti-piracy measures to stop continual reinstall would kick in I would have thought.
