Pop Ups

A couple weeks ago, I started getting pop-up ads on websites I frequently visit. I typically Chrome or Opera and only use IE when necessary. I also run AdBlocker Plus. Avast hasn’t alerted to any attacks, and an Anti-Malwarebytes scan didn’t turn up anything. Now I’m wondering if I picked up something malicious that’s not turning up on a scan.

Any ideas?

Hi,

Welcome to the forum,

You may install add-on for each browser that you use which is from each browser has providing the add-on tools to protect that.
Have you try to run boot-time scan with avast!?
For each visited website, you may scan with :

http://safeweb.norton.com/
http://www.unmaskparasites.com/
http://www.mywot.com/

Before you visit and you feel weird with the website link, you may scan with them first. But normally avast! pro-actively to protect injected website.

I suggest:

  1. Clean your temporary files.
  2. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
  3. Use MBAM (or SUPERantispyware or even Spyware Terminator) to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete them.
  4. Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
  5. Make a HijackThis log to post here or this analysis site. Or even submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
  6. Clean your Hosts file (replacing it) with HostsMan tool.
  7. Disable System Restore and then reenable it again.
  8. Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster.
  9. Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.

Thanks very very much. I’ll let you know my results.
