I’m using the free version of Avast so I think I am unable to turn off the popups.
But I can’t get rid of them either unless I refresh the screen.
Using ESC doesn’t work and the X in the top right corner does nothing.
I am using Windows7 Pro.

Post a screenshot.
It’s just the standard popup. Ignore the info in this one as it bears no resemblance to my actual computer even though I keep getting the same info.
Others are about upgrades or how many things have been blocked. The behaviour is the same for all. I can only get rid of them by refreshing my screen.
Repair Avast:
I am wary about doing that. Strange things happen when I meddle with Avast
Well, did that and it seemed to do a full update. Haven’t rebooted yet but we’ll see what happens with popups, except I probably won’t get one for ages now
Unless you pay for or are planning to pay for Avast Cleanup,
I suggest you remove that Component. You’ll find it under Performance.
Well, just had my first popup after the ‘repair/update’ suggested above.
Nothing changed. Still can’t get rid of the popup except by a screen refresh, ESC and X still don’t do anything. Just have a useless lump in the bottom right of my screen, still telling me I have rogue programs that don’t exist on my computer and the thing will only go away when I refresh my screen.
Haven’t rebooted yet as I still have things running I don’t want to interrupt.
You’ve made changes. Reboot for them to take effect.
Strictly speaking, I haven’t made any changes, Avast did that without asking. And I still don’t know what the cause was.
And I have things going on that I can’t interrupt just now
PS “More replies may be posted, but you won’t receive any more notifications until you read the topic.”
From the email notification. What a strange statement. I wonder what the thinking is behind that.
Not so strange, lets say there are 4 replies (or more) you would receive 4 or more emails. When you read the topic, you would then receive a new email if there is a further reply. But only one email, not one for each reply, if you haven’t read (opened) the the topic.
No, you’ve lost me.
After I receive a notification that I have a reply, I won’t receive any more notifications unless I log in to see if I have any more replies. Erm, then I wouldn’t need any notifications.
One email, four emails, makes no difference to me.
But then I don’t make the rules or indeed pay
You need the initial email notification to be aware you have a reply, with a link to the topic.
Why send more notifications for each and every post if you haven’t taken action on the initial email notification. Once you do log back on and view that topic it will trigger/reset the notifications again should there be any further replies in the topic after your visit.
I never use the the notifications as I would be getting a lot more than four emails and for others that would be the same. When I come back into the forum I use the ‘Show new replies to your posts.’ link at the top of the page.
