We are running Avast! Internet Security on three XP computers (each with 2 gb memory) which updated to v.2014.9.0.2008 approximately two weeks ago. Since that time, when these computers are started up the ability to connect to the Internet is slim and next to none for approximately one hour, and then ZOOM! you can go anywhere and do anything online. Is there any way this issue could be connected to the Avast! upgrade?
On my Windows 7 desktop and Windows 8 laptop I am using the free version and have not had any issues with connectivity (I know, we have too many computers in the house), so I’m curious as to whether this is a conflict with XP & Avast!, or totally unrelated to Avast!?
It could very well be connected to the update, If that is all that changed in the meantime.
There’s a few things you could try
a: There’s a 9.0.2009beta version available that fixes a lot of issues you could try (I’d advice against using the grimefighter plugin that comes with it)
b: there are reports about the Avast Online Security browser plugin causing issues. Removing this from your browser might help.
c: The firewall of the Internet Security version seems to be having some issues (look around the forums). Removing it and using Windows’ own or Comodo firewall could help.
