Possible virus

I was on the web and this file downloaded. Any idea what it is? apinst-qt-1.2.5-win64.exe

I have no idea, a google search on the file returns zero hits which is a bit strange.

There are sites that can also check suspect file.

Thanks for the help.
I ran it in VirusTotal and at the top it says
“1/71 security vendor flagged this file as malicious”
Everything underneath it says “Undetected”
The results are at

I’m not sure how to read everything.

Well 1 detection out of 71 scanners is a pretty low confidence of it being malicious.

It would also depend on which one if 71 scanners detected it and what it found it to be.
That said I had never heard of CrowdStrike Falcon and the confidence isn’t great - Well 1 detection out of 71 scanners is a pretty low confidence of it being malicious.

That said I had never heard of CrowdStrike Falcon and the confidence level is low at Win/grayware_confidence_60% (D)

Google search on Greyware:
Grayware is software that is not malware but can be harmful to a device or its user. It’s also known as potentially unwanted programs (PUPs).

Examples of grayware

  • Adware: Displays ads on your screen

  • Spyware: Collects user data and sends it to a third party

  • Location tracking: Tracks your location

  • Web browsing habit monitoring: Tracks your web browsing habits.

So, probably a good chance that it’s not going to do anything really bad? Since it’s really unknown I assume there’s no way to get rid of it. Should I just search the web for the file name now and then to see if it appears.

I did a google search on the file and got zero hits and based on the “Win/grayware_confidence_60% (D)” name given, I did a search for greyware resulted in information I already posted.

Personally if you haven’t already deleted that file, I would suggest you do so.

I may have screwed up. I did move it to the recycle bin but then moved it back to test it. Now it gone so it may have been renamed. Guess I’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Thank for you time and help.

Never mind. I found it and shredded it. Again, thanks for your time.
