Power Defragmenter Trojan

After getting todays updates my avast warned me that Power Defragmenter had the Win32:Trojan-gen. {VC}. I downloaded it from here~ http://www.excessive-software.tk/.I moved it to the virus vault. Is this a false positive?
Respectfully,
R.B.

If you did a little search on this board before posting you would already have know that it is a false positive.

Thank You Eddy for responding to my post. I will try to do more searches in the future. When I restore it from the vault I get the warning about the program. How do I get avast to ignore it?

Just put it to the exclusion list in Avast for now. You can remove it from there as soon as Alwil has fixed it in their vps.

Thank You

Hello all,
I was a bit triggerhappy this morning and deleted the trogan before
reading the posts about it.
Do I now need to do anything having deleted it?
I already had turned off system restore.so can’t use that.
Thanks for any suggestions.

If you really deleted the file, just reinstall the application.

If you moved the file to the chest, you can put it back from there.

Thanks Eddy,
How do I do that and where do i find the application.
Mal

If you moved the file to the virus chest, start avast! then go menu then click on virus chest and the file should be under infected, if you deleted the program, reinstall it then start avast then go menu then settings then exclusions then add, hope this helps

Thanks for the reply watchthisspace,
I had moved the file to virus chest and deleted it from there.
I just do not know where to find this programme to reinstall it.

grrr, I deleted a program today that said it had that, don’t have it on disk any more, so I will have to try find it.

Please, do not delete your programs… :-[
At least, send them to Chest. 8)

Hi!
does anyone know if this file is important and if so where to find and reinstall it.
Mal

My programs are freeware so feel free to re-download them after Alwil guys fix the false positive. Or send it into chest as Technical recommended before. I’ll also put notification on webpage about this issue.

Thanks Rejzor,
have put programme in virus chest and await fix in avast.

Carel notified me that new VPS update should be available today.

Thanks RejZor.
Carel, could it be a push update?

People should not be so fast to delete things without investigation.

As doctors are meant to do ‘first do no harm, (to your system)’ move it to the chest and give yourself some time to investigate and ensure it is not a false positive.

Deleting a file as your first course of action can do serious harm and leave few/no options.

Having moved to the chest it is possible to check using one of the on-line virus scanners.
