i recently updated avast program and since then have had trouble updating.
everytime the program tries to update automatically, Sygate comes on asking whether the setup program should be allowed to connect as it has been launched by another program, ashserv.exe (this is one of the features of sygate).
then even if u click allow everytime, it keeps asking a few times that time and then again in the future. It also goes through the entire list, eg, download1.avast, download2.avast etc…
what can i do to stop sygate asking me like this? it never used to until i updated (build 4.1.412)
help!
btw i dont want to turn the feature off in sygate as it is uselessful stop a trojan for example loading another program. and i have already gone through sygate and i cant change any setting in there to allow it constantly
solved. I was able to change a setting in sygate to allow ashserv all the time. Be interested to know why/how this occurred after the last prog update tho
run a search at the sygate forum for “avast”, sound like a problem on their end… For example on suggestion was to “Try disabling Anti-Application Hijacking”…
If sygate is doing its job, it will recognise that the program that is trying to access the internet has changed (program update) from the last time. All it is asking for is confirmation that it is ok to allow access.
This ia a good thing as it avoids a virus creating a filename of a program that usually has access to the internet so it can gain unrestricted access to the internet to propagate.
Do you mean the warning by sygate (and its anti-hijacking function), that the program has changed? If so you are going to have to get into the sygate application permission settings and ensure that the program/s are allowed access.
See ‘How to set Permissions by Application’ in the sygate help file.
I don’t use sygate (I tried it and it crashed my system, I still have the User Guide pdf file), so I would suggest a visit to the sygate site (if they have a forum, check that out) and see if you can find a solution in the FAQs, etc.
