Probable Virus still existing on computer

I am running Avast antivirus home program, but am having symptoms of an onboard virus.

  1. I can’t download any file from anyplace on the Internet.
  2. Windows live messenger will not log in.
  3. Inability to print anything using icons nor print commands.
  4. System has become very slow including slower speed in typing where a lot of characters are skipped.
  5. Restore places should have been available, but were not.

I did a scan with Avast that identified the same file, but on two different hard drives as having a trojan virus. I used the delete option supplied by Avast and have ran a thorough scan of all files and sent them into the Chest–there were several. However, the symptoms remain on the computer.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

In addition, I have been unable to delete, send and move files in the Outlook email program. I am using Windows Vista 32 bit operating system.

I suggest SuperAntiSpyware Free or MalwareByte’s Anti-Malware.

I suggest:

  1. Clean your temporary files.
  2. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
  3. Use the tools Jtaylor83 posted. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete them.
  4. Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
  5. Make a HijackThis log to post here or this analysis site. Or even submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
  6. Disable System Restore and then reenable it again.
  7. Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster.
  8. Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.
