this afternoon i got an note from avast that an new program of avast came out.
according to info my avast is now 4.8.1368 with toolkit version 1.9.4.0
ok so i downloaded the new version of avast (avast did it all by itself) and then it told me to reboot.
so i reboot, now 30 min ago i wanted to start swat4.
but now avast says it has found an virus in the swat files:
m4d.dll
i have played that game for 2,5 years and i am sure that file has no virus at all.
but now i cant play it so i would like to know how i can tell avast to not scan that swat folder.
i allready did with program settings and then exclussions and i excluded both the whole swat4 folder and the specific m4d.dll file.
is there any other thing i can do to not let avast detect it as a trojan horse?
ps. i am not sure this is the right part of the forum, sry if i misposted it.
Hi marcolowik, welcome to the forum
As it turns out there are two exclusion lists. I believe you have used the wrong one…
It may be that this is a false positive, so before we go excluding it, can you do the following:
Please could you upload the file to www.virustotal.com to confirm if it is a false positive and report back with the link to the results?
You could also send the file in a password protected archive to virus(at)avast(dot)com with ‘potential false positive’ in the subject line and the password in the email body.
or
You could add the file to the user files of the virus chest and send it from there:
Right click avast icon in taskbar -->click start avast antivirus -->right click scanner background → click virus chest → navigate to user files → click add files →
right click file -->email to alwil software.
NOTE:
The file will actually be uploaded when the next update is performed (you can do a manual update to initiate the sending)
You could also add a link to this thread and some more information when you do.

ok i got the report from virus total.
i saw later that when u get the trojan horse error u have a box on the right lower side with false positive.
and i also filled that in.
so i think all i can do now is wait for next update.
because i also did the second way to exclude, when u do dubbelclick on avast icon and then select shield and then advanced and then exclude following file.
Yep, I would conclude a false positive also…Scan the file periodically after a VPS update, and when (if?) the detection is removed, then you can remove the exclusions…
also glad you got it excluded without my help
yea all i can do is wait for the next update,
but i still wonder how i further can exclude it because i have tried to exclude it in both ways now but when i start the game i still get the error.
??? ???
btw. thanks for the nice and quick response.
Ok, to exclude it:
Left click avast! tray icon → ‘more details’ (if necessary) → scroll to and click on standard shield → click 'custimise → ‘advanced’ tab → ‘add’–> enter the path to the file you wish to exclude.
That should stop it alerting when you run it. If that doesn’t work, post the full path you are trying to exclude here.

i did find that one, and i added thow lines:
c:\program files (x86)swat 4\content\system\m4d.dll
and
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\SWAT 4
but still the error
Is that the exact path from the alert window?
check the source file using notepad C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Warning.log and copy and paste the entry into the exclusion list
yea that did it.
thanks for all the help.
No problem, glad to help
Indecently there has just been a VPS update, rememeber to re-scan the file after them (about once a day…) and then you can remove it from the exclusion lists.
Happy gaming
