problem opening avast

Hi, not sure if i am on the right forum topic here but my avast will nt open, it comes up with failed to load language dll. Has something gotten into my computer? I would be grateful if anyone can help with this as i am wary about not being protected. Thank you

Hi,

It could just be your Language file is corrupt.

Do the following.

Open up Control Panel > Program & Features > Right click Avast! > Uninstall/Change > Repair > Continue.

If that doesn’t work please let me know. Also, if you’re worried about malware, please go to the following guide: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

Run in the following order:

 • Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
 • OTL
 • aswMBR (Windows 7 Only)

From there, I can have someone assist you with any present malware or crapware

Hi there
I have done that and it is still the same :frowning: I am running windows 8 if that is of any use to you and have only had my computer about a month and have been running avast since i first bought it so I wouldnt think it would be malware? Are there any more suggestions? Thank you

Are there any more suggestions?
run and attach the OTL diagnostic log from the guide alan1998 gave link to...

Here are the logs from the scan - i hope it helps…

a log expert is notified…

Thank you!

@sticky74
No need for aswMBR as it’s drivers can’t load on Windwos 8 system. Poted OTL log seems clean.

How I personally feel more comfor using an updated FRST tool on Windows 8, we shall repeat diagnostic, although I believe that we will not find any malware traces.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (
http://www.mcshield.net/personal/magna86/Images/FRST_canned.png
) by Farbar and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them.
Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

[*]Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
[*]Press Scan button.
[*]It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
[*]The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

Hi thanks for that…here are the logs

Hi sticky74,

FRST has been confirmed what OTL has been already spoken. There is no malware here.
In theory, there is always the possibility that some hardcore malware or rootkit hides its component from detection and from our tools.
But on Windows 8 it’s a bit harder, especially as you don’t have MBR (RootKits can exploit MBR to load own component before Windows loads) and your HDD doesn’t have MBR but GPT.

Partition: GPT Partition Type

I wana say that there is probably no need for additional ARK scan. You are malware free. Posted logs are now appear cleans and show no signs of active infection.

Good workman always cleans up after himself.
The following will implement some post-cleanup procedures:

=> Please download DelFix by Xplode to your Desktop.

Run the tool and check the following boxes below;

Remove disinfection tools

Create registry backup

Purge System Restore
Click Run button and wait a few seconds for the programme completes his work.
At this point all the tools we used here should be gone. Tool will create an report for you (C:DelFix.txt)

The tool will also record healthy state of registry and make a backup using ERUNT program in %windir%\ERUNT\DelFix
Tool deletes old system restore points and create a fresh system restore point after cleaning.

Great news but how can I get avast to load the language? The original problem has not been solved

I’m here to check your mashine on malware.

For start try simply to repair or to re-install avast.
