I use the free home edition, version 4.8. In response to a license key expiring soon notice I installed the new key and it was accepted. But I still keep getting license key expiring soon notices. Any suggestions?
I believe you have entered a ‘copy’ of your existing valid key. If you request a key using the same email address avast would check against that email address if the key is still valid and if so send that copy.
You should use the third option in the list of reasons, “existing user need new key”, or words to that effect, or use a different email address.

Do you use copy & paste method?
Are you sure you do not include the ‘last blank space’ in the paragraph while copying & pasting?
Thanks to you both. Tech - yes to all three, and I had repeated copying and pasting twice more but still kept getting reminders. DavidR - I had thought that I had chosen the third option to begin with. I tried choosing the 3rd one again as you suggested and this time it gave the same key number but after inserting this number this time my expiration which had said April 1, 2009 changed to June 1, 2010. I’m not sure what happened but hopefully all is well and I won’t get anymore reminders.

I doubt it gave the same number, they might well look the same or very similar as much of it will be the same or the update expiration date wouldn’t have changed (pus 14 months).
It may be for some reason that the other key didn’t register correctly, but I would have expected an error, invalid key, etc. to have been displayed. I too hate mysteries, fortunately things are now resolved.

I have exactly the same problem… Key is OK but when i re-boot my PC it I still keep getting license key expiring soon notices… can’t fix it 
Go to the SSL page version and register from there: https://secure.avast.com/scripts/register.php?lang=ENG. The Registration key is valid for 14 months.

Is your system date/time correct?

Which avast version are you trying to register (Home or Professional)?
