Problem uninstalling avast from Win XP

Hi,

When I try to uninstall avast! home from my Windows XP Home, I get the following error:

“RUNDLL
Error loading C:\PROGRA~1\Alwil
The requested module was not found”

(translated from Norwegian, so English error message might be a little different)

How can I remove avast?

Thanks,
Torbjørn

Do a repair first, then try to uninstall.

Why do you want to uninstall Avast anyway?

Thanks for your quick response!

How do I repair…? I have only one button avaiable in my “Add/Remove Programs”-list. (Change/Remove)

The reason for wanting to remove avast, is that I have gotten a free subscription to Norton Virus Center. I was thinking that since Norton usually makes money on all of their products, they are able to spend more time on making their software up-to-date and prevent the latest viruses from attacking my computer…? -Or am I wrong - is avast Home edition better or just as good as NVC?

Thanks,
Torbjørn

That's the one to use for a repair :D

Alwil is many times faster with a "emergency" release of the vps update than Symantec when there is a new very harmfull virus. (like blaster, sasser and such)

Avast Home is using the same scan engine and vps as the Pro version. It is only limited in settings you can make as user and things like p2p and script blocking/checking. Both are good av's. Avast however is easier on resources, has this forum ;D and has a real good and friendly support. Personally I would stay with Avast.

I run a computer repair store and have seen many people switching from NAV to Avast and only heard positive comments about the change. I let that speak for itself.

-Well, doh, that’s where I get the error…I can’t get past this point.

But I’ll stick to avast, then - Whether I want to or not - since I can’t uninstall it… :-\

Give the uninstall utillity a try
