Problem viewing emails/IM messages

I have Vista and recently installed avast! 4.7 Home/Professional Edition. After a while, I uninstalled it and now find that I am not able to view any emails (in Internet Explorer 7) and cannot see my messages in Yahoo Messenger IM window/archives.

I am able to browse normally in Firefox and check emails also.

What should I do now to get back to my old state? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

We will need more information to be able to help you:

  • Which OS are you using? Is it up to date?
  • What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number?
  • Which actions have you taken to try solving the problem?
  • Do you use a firewall? Which one?
  • Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system? Did you have in the past?
  • Any other security programs that could interfere?
  • Any useful information into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events, specially ‘Errors’.
