Problem when sending EMails with Thunderbird

Hello,

during the last weeks I have Problems when sending EMails with Thunderbird. Even with short text messages I get error messages like “timout with SMTP”. Avast settings are EMail check for ingoing and outgoing mails.

Is this known?
And why should I check outgoing mails?

And why should I check outgoing mails?
to avoid sending virus

Your mail provider may scan in/outgoing mail at the mail server, most mail providers does
Any help in this? https://www.avast.com/en-eu/faq.php?q=thunderbird#searchForm

I thougt so
How can I send malware? As long as Avast or another virus tool makes me secure there is no malware …

lets say you get infected/ or recive in a mail a bug avast does not detect, and this bug use mail to spread … then 30min later avast updates signatures for that bug so it is now detected, and 5min later you are going to send a mail

Anyway i use webmail, so i avoid all mail client problems

If you’re running into timeout problems with your SMTP server (presumably operated by your ISP), I’d definitely want to check with their help-desk people.

Ok. A week ago I changed 2 setting:

  • SMTP server port from 25 to 587
  • no virus-check for outgoing mails.
Since then “timout with SMTP” seems to be solved (it did occur in the past only randomly).

And as I know what I send as EMail (mostly pure text, sometimes own photos which don’t have malware (and are virus checked regulary) there should be no problem.
