I have run avast a few times since yesterday because it keeps finding a virus no matter how many times I move it to the chest. I have also deleted Anti Phishing Domain Advisor (I don’t remember downloading it) because at one time it suggested the virus was there, but it is still finding the same thing.
It is described as:
Severity: High Threat: HTML: Script-Inf
It seems now that it finds it in an m.list file, whatever that is.
I’ve deleted the m.list file, to see if that does anything, but am currently running avast again to see.
Thanks for the advice, I’ve done the remove Anti Phishing Domain Advisor and am rescanning, hopefully it will be ok now, but I wait to see.
In terms of the advice from mikaelrask, is it necessary to download all those security programs in that thread? I usually just use avast and antimalwarebytes, and don’t generally have any problems. Am I only running half, or less, of what I need to to be secure?
I find the occasional virus or spyware but it usually cleans off without fuss, am I being naive in not using more programs?
This time it hasn’t found anything, so fingers crossed. But is it enough to just have avast and malwarebytes or am I being stupid by only having those two?
Just to clear things up, the link mikaelrask posted are for specialised tools used by our malware cleaner experts to diagnose and clean an infected system.
What an user seeking such help will do, is download these programs, provide the logs produced, malware expert assisting will look the logs over, and provide a fix just for that computer. All you would do here is provide the first scan logs and wait for an answer. Some of these tools are so powerful that, if not used properly, can destroy the windows installation; that is why they should only be used in the cleansing part under expert guidance.
Malwarebytes is ok to run and clean without expert guidance.
You should be fine with just Avast! ISS (this includes a firewall) and Malwarebytes paid version (real-time protection). Always run only the fewest protective security modules you can to be safe. In other words, no running two active resident antivirus programs, no two firewalls (with the exception of Windows Firewall and Avast! ISS firewall, this is ok), or two different active a/v suites.
If you wish, you can use an online scanner from ESET here: http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ for a second opinion scanner. Be aware this scanner sometimes will produce false positives, so always research such to ensure the files found are safe or not before taking any action with this scanner.
