Problem with Avast Passwords in new release 17.5.2302

Hi, everybody,

Since I upgraded to the new stable release, I am having this problem with Avast Passwords:

  1. Whenever I start Google Chrome, my Avast Passwords extension is locked (ok, no problem with that).
  2. Then, I enter my password (that’s ok).
  3. Avast prompts me to login to my account every time ( … this is new, it never happened before)
  4. Here’s the problem: when I enter my email and password, I always receive an eror message saying that my attempt is UNSUCCESSFUL and “Synchronization is already turned on” :(???)

I simply close that window, and Avast Passwords works just fine, but this is very annoying, specially because this didn’t happen before.

And before you ask, I made a clean install of the new version, and I am pretty sure that I am entering my email and password correctly!

Is this normal? Can anybody give me a clue to solve this problem? Thanks!!!

I can confirm this problem. Have had it on my computer as well.
I’ve reported the problem to Avast.

Could be kinda the same as there is with FireFox.
It seems like it has to do with they a browsers is registering itself in Windows (the registry) and what avast is checking to see what browser(s) are installed.

Eddy it just started to happen so most likely to do with something in a recent VPS update.

Thank you guys, for your concern.

I ran an Avast Repair, following up to see how it goes …

Thanks for the report

It seems to be a re-appearing problem with passwords storage protection against hijacking (copying). It is most likely caused by my avast component release which is independent on Avast major releases, but we are still investigating the root cause of the issue so it is still a bit soon to blame some component.
Once we find root cause we will deliver fix ASAP no matter where it is.

Please note that if you are affected by this issue no changes you think you’ve made on data in your passwords are saved and there is no common way how to solve the issue so re-install, repair etc. nothing will help.

If you really need to fix the issue ping me PM I will provide a set of steps which will solve the issue (these are very technical and bit destructive so I don’t want to make them public).
In general, you should delete local avast passwords storage, create a new one (empty), turn on synchronization and authorize the device from another device or from the backup link.

We are sorry for any inconvenience caused by this issue. We are doing our best to fix it ASAP.

Hi, Martin,

Thank you very much for your answer! I think I will wait until a fix is released.

Best regards!

Especially since it still works. Just close the window and disregard the sysc error message.

Sure, I will do that, Bob. Thanks!

@ noelrojasc,
You’re welcome. Let’s hope it get fixed quickly.
