Problem with avast!

So, when I somehow destroyed my operating system one guy fixed it and installed avast (idk if it was payed version, can’t remember).
After some time I installed Windows 7 (as I had XP before) and decided to download avast! again. I went to your website and downloaded it. After 2 hours I simply couldn’t connect to any protected (https://) website. I just got an error message (This website might be down) and then after that I tried to fix it and I did something, I can’t remember what and I couldn’t enter any website on the internet. I had internet connection, but I couldn’t browse the internet at all. I fixed this problem by re-installing windows again and it worked. Now, as I seriously need an AV and avast is the best (as I was using it before) I just want to ask, what caused this problem/error? Because I seriously don’t want to re-install everything again. Thanks for your help.

I’m not sure if this is the right board, if it’s not then please move it.

If this is a fresh reformat and “no” other antivirus is installed then you should
be able to install avast without any conflicts.

Make sure no other antivirus is installed.

Too many possible causes, but list below can give some clues, along with Para-Noid’s recommendation:

Cause of your https:// and http:// connectivity issues could be:

  • Firewall settings or incompatible firewall software.
  • Running two firewalls at the same time (conflict).
  • Corrupted avast! install; Choose Repair to fix.
  • System connected to Internet without antivirus real-time protection installed for more than 30 seconds (Windows operating systems).
  • Router or modem settings or issues.
  • Corrupted or damaged browser.
