Just wanted to let you know I seem to have solved my problem with opening Outlook - I’m no computer expert but I gave it a shot. Maybe someone else already has as well, I’m not into these postforums, so forgive me if I’m bringing old news!
I did a total clean-out running a regedit, searching for >anything< and >everything< and deleting what contained either “norton” or “symantec”. I had already un-installed the software/program the regular way, but that just isn’t enough unfortunately - it obviously leaves traces that disturb the system and keep it from running smothly. Anyway - I do keep my fingers crossed and hope I didn’t delete anything “vital” among the system files!
Norton is notorious for this as can be seen in many forum topics about it, harder to get rid of than many a virus.
The solution for many is to run this tool: A link worth looking at, which is a program removal tool that can remove the remnants of a number of different Norton Programs: Removing your Norton program using SymNRT
You can also download SymNRT, a Norton uninstall tool that uninstalls all Norton 2004/2005/2006 products.
Hopefully you have your problem resolved though and won’t require this.
Thank you for your reply - oh well, since the problem appeared after I’d installed avast I thought it was related to avast specifically - wow, I really am a Newbie here, won’t last for long I’m afraid
Stick around and browse the forums, especially the sticky topics at the top of each of the forums. They provide a wealth of information to help you get the best from avast.
As David has suggested, it is a good idea to browse this forum for information. There are many knowledgable people posting on this forum. Use the Search feature at the top of the page if something comes to mind that you would like more information.
Please come back often, learn more, and maybe help others.
Thank you for your kind replies, I appreciate it - there really is a lot of information to be found in here - and great to see there’s even room for some really personal stuff too - quite amazing to witness actually.
