Today in my monthly full system scan I found an adware(Avast detected it).
Normally Avast does not detect many adwares and for that purpose I use AVG free anti-spyware.However even AVG did not detect it.
My question is why did Avast resident Scanner not detected it (it was kept on high),when the adware got installed??
Be happy that it detected it, whilst avast is an anti-virus it does also detected adware and spyware but isn’t a specialist anti-adware/spyware program.
New signatures are constantly added and it is possible that this was already on your system befor the signature updates.
If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it.
- Ewido, a.k.a. avg anti-spyware If using winXP. or a-Squared free if using win98/ME.
- Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition - Ad-Aware Product Comparison Chart http://www.lavasoft.de/download_and_buy/product_comparison_chart.php
- Spybot Search and Destroy
- Spywareblaster Don’t install this until you are clean.
Can you check the date when the file was saved in the disk and the date that avast add it on the signature database (http://www.avast.com/eng/vps_history.html).
Thanks David…I have already installes AVG free and Lavasoft adaware personal.
I mostly don’t quarantine it.I directly delete any detections.
Your welcome, did you see the resized avatar I did for you in one of your other Topics ?
Deletion isn’t really a good first option (you have none left), ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest/quarantine and investigate.
You will regret… I mean, you could…
Some system files, even infected, are necessary for boot (for instance).
Other files, could be false detected (false positives). They’re clean and you’re deleting them… :-\
