problem with updating

I am getting warnings from avast (a little red box that pops up when I boot up) and from Windows (security warnings) that my virus protection is out of date. When I manually update, I get a message that my database is already up to date. Why am I still getting these warnings? How can I be sure I am up to date? I also thought that avast automatically updates itself anyway.

Please check your system time and date. Adjust if necessary.

If you haven’t changed the update setting from automatic to manual, avast will update automatically. To check your current vps version, right click the “a” icon near the clock, select about avast. The version and date will be shown.

Welcome to the forum.

I am set for auto updates, but for some reason, I am still getting a security warning from Windows telling me that my protection is not up to date. That’s why I tried to update manually, just to be sure. It still did not solve the problem. So, I don’t know what to believe right now. How do I know if I am up to date or not? I am getting conflicting information from Windows and avast.

Did you check and confirm that the system date is correct as oldman suggested ?

However if this inability to update has been going on for a while then it is possible that this windows security center warning is correct.

What version of avast VPS do you have (as oldman mentioned) ?
Check the avast.com home page that reports the latest version of the VPS (current version 000777-2).

Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Warning section, this may contain information on failed updates ?

Has the auto updates previously worked ?
If so what is your firewall ?
Does it allow avast.setup internet access ?

  • If it does delete the entry for it and do a manual update, this will force the firewall to ask permission again.

Did you check system time and date as asked before?
Do you have any other antivirus installed in this computer? Did you have in the past? Which one?
