I’m using the free version of avast and after the latest update (2014.9.0.2011 131226-1) loading of web pages is extremely low. I did couple of tests and it’s always the same. I turn off active protection and the page loads instantly, I turn it on and it just hangs in a loop.
its also blocking/timing out other communications such as the internal communications between EA came servers and Battlefield 4
I see it mostly on background php processes like fetching images or streaming video, web database calls too, which all go through, they are just terribly slow
it does not appear to be a intelligent stream scanner issue, its something else, perhaps script scanning
getting sick of avast blocking things and not TELLING ME!
or worse that it doesn’t know its blocking things
I also had problems after updating Today , web pages would take an age to load and then i would lose connection completely and would have to reboot.
After rebooting i could then browse slowly again for around 20 minutes before losing connection once more.
I have just done a system restore and thankfully everything seems to be working fine now, although of course im now using an "old" version of Avast but ill keep it until the “bugs” get fixed .
I am getting alarms from my fire wall daily from Avast “emergency Update” at present it is # 22 keeps going up in #'s . i have to “allow” updates manually :o
I am also seeing how it REALLY slows down the loading and operation of sites like TD Ameritrade and takes FOREVER (90-150 sec) for the icon to show up in the task bar. I run the latest version of Chrome as my browser on a Win XP Pro SP3 machine… The icon loading REALLY slowed down on the previous version and this one is even worse… I hesitate to think about buying the full program if this is what’s in store… PLEASE FIX THESE PROBLEMS. Thank you.
I’m using the same version (2014.9.0.2011 ) and experiencing the same problems with either Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Google mail either doesn’t load or sign on doesn’t complete. Disabling Avast for 10 minutes speeds everything up long enough for me to do my work and get off.
If this continues, I will go looking for a new product. I’ve not had any problems with Avast prior to this.
I keep getting false notifications about avast being updated to 131226-1 (even though I already had the update). Anyone having the same issue?
I rebooted again and I did not get the notification, but I did get an avast! Secureline ad. I then rebooted again and got the problem again. It seems every time it asks the server if there is an update it gives me this message even though I already have the updated. Maybe 131227-0 will not have the same problem.
One more problem to add to the list of post-update woes. Just got the notification from Avast this morning that an update was available. I’m running XP SP3. Installed update and subsequently used SysRes 3 times because the update caused serial rebooting. One partial reboot after another. One time, the update even disabled direct access to System Restore from the Safe Mode bootup. Works fine now without the update, so I’d say Avast needs to tweak the current update.
