THE LAST TIME I TOLD IT TO CANCEL AND ASKED THE PC FOR MORE INFORMATION AND THIS IS WHAT IT SAID THAT THERE AS A PROBLEM AND

What is the operating system (OS), and what AV was installed before attempting to install Avast?
Any other security applications installed?
Are you running an admin account?
Is your Windows up to date?
what AV program did you have before installing avast! ?
have you uninstalled it ?
did you use a removal tool to clean out any leftovers ?
you can find one here http://uninstallers.blogspot.com/
windows vista, i had mcafee but not up to date only running firewall; also paretologic trial version both removed but same problem, no i didn’t use a removal tool i just uninstalled the two programs. mpt running an admin account.
Download the McAfee removal tool from here or from Pondus’ link above, and run it.
What does “mpt” mean? That you are on an admin account? If so, good, if not, any security application is best run-as an admin.
After running the tool, reboot, and attempt to install Avast again. There doesn’t seem to be a removal tool for Paretologic products; which one did you install? The AV? Did you reboot after uninstalling it?
yes have run the mcafee removal tool and am trying avast again now. sorry about the typo - as fas as i know am admin. yes the paretologic AV and yes rebooted after uninstalling it. got avast download from the avast site - used the link in the email they sent with the licence activator. i have the free version of avast on a netbook and that was no problem, that runs windows 7. will let you know how the latest attempt goes but its getting late here now - 1 min past midnight and my bed is calling!
Sometimes, McAfee won’t be completely removed if, before, you do not uninstall Avast, including the use of its “Uninstall Application” if necessary (www.avast.com/eng/faq-install-uninstall-avast.html).
