Avast is not scanning all of my files…not sure why. plus i received this error message this morning unknown error 42000. i had to re-instal avast just to get it to work…what could be the problem here?
Can you post the error message? Or at least, which files can’t avast scan?
Whithout more info it won’t be easy to help…
What files exactly were not scanned, and how did you find out?
OK on quick scan There 235 files that avast won’t scan and on thorough there are 350 files that avast won’t scan. It won’t let me copy the files to post here so i moved them to the chest. What do i do next?
At the end of each scan a box appears and says next to results “Unable to scan”
If you widen the column (by dragging its head with your mouse), you’ll see the reason why it couldn’t be scanned. I’d bet on password protected archives - i.e. nothing to worry about.

Your 1st Question is answered in our "FAQ"s ; have you
read them ? The "Error 42000" has been asked several
times in this Forum and IF you enter "42000" into the box
that appears when you click "search" at the top of the
forums, it will give you a list of "threads" about that
topic . It might be helpful because someone with a similar
problem to yours may have had an answer given !?
I just read about the error 42000 so far today I’ve not had that problem. When i removed Nortens a/v from my computer I forgot to edit nortons from my registry…I did that last night and avast seems to be working great today…and no errors
