I’m having problems with Avast. A little while ago I was running a virus check before startup on my laptop. A lot of the files that it was scanning, in fact most of them, had an error “42100”.
About 2 or 3 months ago, I replaced the HD on my notebook. Could this be causing the problem? I’m kind of confused because none of the files that it did scan had no infections in them.
Why is this error occuring?
Did you search the board for 42100?

But, I’m still confused. What does “Exception in polymorphic viruses code” mean? Do I have a polymorphic virus?
I ran Avast! again lastnight during startup and it worked fine; no errors.
I’m on a Intel Centrino notebook.
What exactly is your OS version/build? (i.e. what does the window, appearing when you run the “winver” command, say?)
Oh, I’m running Windows XP: Home Edition, SP 2.
OK, but what is the exact build? You should be able to find out e.g. using the “winver” command.

I have run into this problem frequently and I’m still confused. I see answers or questions from the moderators & tech support giving a list of the error codes.This list gives vague abbreviated explanations which doesn’t explain in any detail what causes the error.
I also see tech asking for the XP build number, BUT no reply or reason for asking the question or an answer.
Could someone please explain IF the error is serious.
IE: is there a virus? & if so, what does Avast do about it? if anything?
So far, the several posts regarding this error have not received a full explanation! Well none that I’ve found at least!
