problems with deployment and mirror-update

hi there,

i´m setting up adnm on a w2k3-server with 9 win xp-clients, latest releases all (sp1 on w2k3 and xpsp2 on the clients)

on the client side i have

  • disabled simple file sharing (automatic, it´s a domain)
  • enabled file and print-sharing on the client-firewalls
  • enabled port tcp 16111 on the client firewalls

nothing done on server-side, because the windows firewall seems not to be active here.

the server´s been setup with NO PROXY in my office an the mirroring worked fine.

then i moved the server to the customers site and now i have some problems:

when i try to depoy a new package (sure i made a new one by myself with all needed settings) i get this annoying error:

—schnippschnapp—

i tried this with the following authentications:

domain: *
user: MKH\Administrator
password: XXXX (Domainadminpassword)

domain: MKH
user: MKH\Administrator
password: XXXX (Domainadminpassword)

domain: MKH
user: MKH/Administrator
password: XXXX (Domainadminpassword)

domain: *
user: administrator
password: YYYY (Local Administrators Password)

my other problem is that the mirror is not able to update. the difference betwenn my site and the customers site is, that at the customers site is a proxy which need authentification! and i did not find any option to set this! ???

this ist the mirrors log and status:

i dont know what i could do anymore and i need this thing running quick here! please assist! :-[

thnx

Hi Thomas,

don’t worry, we’ll sort this out…

On a side note, next time, please post just one issue per thread (i.e. in this particular case, you’d post 2 threads instead of 1) - these “aggregated” threads are hard to manage… Thanks.

The culprit seems to be hidden here:

03/10/06 10:08:56: MKH09: WNetAddConnection2 \\MKH09\C$ MKH\Administrator error 1203

Using the command net helpmsg 1203, we find out that this error code translates to No network provider accepted the given network path. Which sort of makes me think that this is still some kind of firewall issue. BTW try doing something like

net use \MKH09\C$ /user:MKH\Administrator

I think you’ll get a similar result…

my other problem is that the mirror is not able to update. the difference betwenn my site and the customers site is, that at the customers site is a proxy which need authentification! and i did not find any option to set this!

To set up the proxy server for the AMS itself (i.e. the mirror), please go to Control Panel → Add/Remove Programs → avast! Management Tools → Change/Remove → Proxy server settings.

BUT, what kind of proxy do they use? And what kind of proxy authentication? I hope it’s not NTLM only (i.e. MS ISA Server)…

Thanks
Vlk

hi vlk,

i hope so…

this is the result:

—schnippschnapp—
Systemfehler 67 aufgetreten.

Der Netzwerkname wurde nicht gefunden.
—schnippschnapp—

i think you don´t speak german, so i try to translate: systemerror 67, networkname not found.

there is no firewall between the server and the clients, better: i don´t know about a local firewall. the clients getting their ip-adresses from a router, the router´s doing dhcp (ask not WHY, i have to live with it because the router is delivered by an clerical institution and they don´t change any config!). could this be the problem? i post an ip-config of one client here next message… just go to get one…

the other problem is on a new thread now…

an thnx for the help

thomas

I found this MS KB article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;875441 that seems to be relevant, with the exception that we’re NOT using FQDN here…

But anyway, do I understand it correctly that you actually CAN’T access the machine’s shares from the server? Or is it just the admin (i.e. C$) share that doesn’t work??

It must be some kind of network configuration problem…

hi vlk,

solved! i had to acitvate “file and print-sharing” in the network preferences, not only in the firewall… :-*

now i go on with the mirror problem…

see new thread.

hi vlk,

you´re right, it WAS some kind of network config problem: the systems came configured from the church´s it-office and filesharing and printersharing was disabled (box unchecked) . i´ve checked it and what should i say? works perfect!

and you´re hint with the proxy (i´ve nerver tried to search it in the software-dialogue, perhaps you should change that, it is a thing for the settings, i mean…) solved the rest.

it works now and i am very happy. thank you for your qualified support!

thomas

Flag to hear that.

BTW it would be useful to have a look at the ADNM Administrator’s Guide (if you haven’t done so already), e.g. the question regarding where to find the proxy config dialog is answered there…
