Has anyone had any problems running P2P Programs, like Limewire or Bearshare while running Avast? Since installing Avast, I am unable to log onto either of those programs, even when terminating the P2P Shield. Any suggestions?
Hi WannabeCowboy!
I had no problem running such programs, but I do not regularly use such applications…
Which is your operating system?
Which other securiy software do you use? (antivirus, firewall, antispyware,…)
Which is you firewall?
Did you use any other antivirus before avast!?

Try re installing the latest limewire free. Does work with avast. But most of the mp3 songs on this contain dropper viruses and i have stopped using limewire free as it is mostly bad for viruses.
Try another P2P program which network is not as infected as Limewire one. I suggest emule.
But any network has a lot of infected files. Scan with avast, be careful, download safe and clear things
The new version of LimeWire just sucks coz it doesnt display the info of files in the search field. so i cannot understand which file contains virus. normally its so easy to understand which is fake.
ive been using FrostWire for a long time. it uses gnutella network just like LimeWire does. and it has the same connection capability (turbo-charged connection) as limewire pro does. and it is totally free, no adware or sth else.
A lot of the p2p applications share files across their networks.
I’ve found a few with malware on board. Mainly movies that attempt to open a browser window to an unsavory site. Sometimes they have a fake extension, too, so you think you’re downloading an mp3, turns out it’s an avi or mpeg.
A bit of care, and looking closely at the wording tends to help reduce the incidence of this occurring.
Also files of certain size (eg 3462, or 5011) where you see that size repeated a lot with different filenames - and often the “browse host” button grayed out - are a dead giveaway.
I never download software using P2P. A lot of it has got to be riddled with malware. I’ve read a lot of reports of this. Get software from the authors’ homepage or authorised mirror, always.
Oh, last but not least, be particularly careful of poorly worded English/spelling/loads of text in filenames. Some of these appear to be for illegal movies/pictures. I read on the Limewire forum of someone who did this, thinking they were downloading a song, turned out to be cp.
Have had no problems with running Limewire and Avast together.
