I have been an AVAST customer for some years now. Yesterday I renovated my license and received a confirmation email which in theory contained all the information to go through the process of activating my new license. When I followed it,
and tried to paste the activation code, the portal did not recognize it, flashing the three panels red.
Meantime, the warning message that my license was about to expire continued in spite of having received confirmation that my new license was active. (Very annoying)
I then decided to call the phone help. A person identifying himself as Stephan answered. He started by stating the obvious: “that is not supposed to happen”; assured me that he would help; then suggested that the issue was deeper in my computer, and that he was recommending me allowing remote access so he could monitor the problems. I agreed, and then he went to a lengthy explanation about the many strange upgrades my computer had allegedly performed, how there were other anti-virus software that were interfering with Avast (they are not activated) and although I asked him if this was a sales pitch, he denied it, only to end up saying that it was necessary to involve a higher level of support , a software “engineer” and that, yes, that would involve a fee. I refused, asked him to work on the straightforward way to follow Avast instructions as per the email I received and find the problem there, and he said he was not able to do that.
When I tried again to activate the program, by following the alternate route (insert license code from the downloaded file) I was able to go through the activation process, complicated without need. Very dissatisfied customer. Won’t renovate next year.

What you called was not avast but a third party.
If I understand this part, and you do have other Anti Virus installed “activated or Not activated” it is recommended to have only ONE Anti Virus instslled on an OS. Even if not activated, it’s recommended to completely uninstall all other AV components.
Many Anti Virus Programs won’t install if other AV remnants/application is identified on the OS.
Just saying
