Problems with Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service

Hi malware fighters and window updaters,

You can install this update using the Windows XP Service Pack disc which comes with your computer. Insert the disc and click on “Update Windows Security Bulletin and Software” and you should find an icon which says “Install .NET Framework”.

That is all folks,

polonus

Version 1.1 is an old update.
Currently already have Version 3.0.04506.30

bob i think damian is referring to my problem as in my pm’s to him and i’m not the only one having it on having Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB928366) install after the recent windows update and damian that suggestion above doesn’t work.
http://help.wugnet.com/windows/Security-Update-Microsoft-NET-Framework-Version-Service-Pack-ftopict579444.html not the only one having the issue…
i have a support ticket to microsoft and am waiting ??? ::slight_smile: from them for a reply-whenever ???.
and bob i thought after .net framework 1 you are supposed to have .net framework 2 then 3-that’s the way i have mine installed ???

This still doesn’t alter the fact that this isn’t a new install or update.
As you can see from my picture, it’s been on my system for quite some time.

Hello Dan,

I think you have attracted the gremlins lately, and they played some jokes on you…
They are going back in time now with your updates, back to the future for you…

Damian

edited-problem solved ;D

the version 2.0 is already enough I think(because I use XP system only)

what’s he listening too

I don’t believe you have to keep old versions of the .net framework runtime versions unless you have software that specifically requires the older version. I used to have 1.1 and when I installed 2.0 I removed 1.1 using add remove programs with no adverse effects (for me anyway).

My only problem with .net 3.0 is it is a 50MB download, on dial-up that isn’t going to happen anytime soon unless it becomes available on a PC magazine cover CD/DVD.

I too have two .net security updates that failed to install, Q917283 and Q922770.

Older versions are not needed.

There are quiet a few people that have problems with updating to the latest version.
But there is a way to solve them.
1] remove all old versions throug control panel > software > add/remove
2] reboot
3] run CCleaner and Abexo
4] reboot
5] install the latest version

With CCleaner you will have to select “scan for issues” several times and fix what it finds until it finds nothing anymore.

.Net Framework v2.0 is a prerequisite for .Net Framework v3.0. Therefore if you have v3.0 already installed, you won’t be able to uninstall v2.0

…but you can safely uninstall v1.1 without any trouble.

You would think with a 50MB download they would be able to install from scratch and not have any prerequisites ???

Yes… unfortunatelly that’s the way it is. I am just afraid what’s gonna happen when they hit .NET v9.0 ;D

I think by the time that comes, it will be quicker for me to go to Redmond and collect it than to download it on dial-up ;D
How knows by then I may have broadband here in what is supposed to be the Heart of England, Oxfordshire, BT’s infrastructure sucks.

took off 1.1 with that .net uninstall zip tool http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip
and installed .net 3.0 from here http://www.filehippo.com/download_dotnet_framework_3/ and it also installed .net 2.0-why does it do that from that download-does .net 3.0 framework require 2.0 and vice versa ??? ::slight_smile:
and my window updates…
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB917283)
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB922770)
February 2007 CardSpace Update for Windows XP (KB925720)
MSXML 6.0 RTM Security Update (KB927977)
Update for Windows XP (KB934238)
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB928365)
all installed…about time something worked right for me-was getting a headache from all this stuff going on the last couple of days 8) :o

it also installed .net 2.0-why does it do that from that download-does .net 3.0 framework require 2.0 and vice versa

It pays to read all the posts in a thread… ;D ;D

It pays to read all the posts in a thread....
i was waiting for a reply from you bob-at least i did it on my own this time(same-what) 8) ::) ;D

Sasha, are you sure ??? I’m about to uninstall it as I have version 3 already installed in my computer but I’m affraid I’ll mess NET installation…

I uninstalled 1.1 when I installed 2.0 without any adverse effects, the only issue would be if a program specifically required 1.1, which I would think unlikely.

Unlike version 3.0 that requires you have 2.0 installed first before you install it, there is no such prerequisite to have 1.1 installed.

tech…
