Problems with Thunderbird and POP accounts.

I have noticed a few posts on here regarding Thunderbird and SSL. I too had these problems, so I uninstalled Avast, ran aswclear etc… I then adjusted back my TB accounts security settings and made sure that TB was working properly (These had been previously adjusted in accordance with Avast 7). I finally re-installed Avast 8.0.1483 (free).

Initially I thought that everything was working correctly, however I now have problems that after about a day or two, my incoming mail stops working. If in this state I use “Get All New Messages”, then I get the following TB error “An error occurred with the POP3 mail server. Mail server mail.o2.co.uk responded:”. Clicking on OK I get a similar message for the next mail account. This goes on for all 5 POP accounts.

I have tried the following:
When the error occurs, if I switch off Mail Shield then TB starts working properly when I “Get All New Messages”. Switching back on Mail Shield then TB works for about a day or two, then stops working again.
Also when the error occurs I have tried from Mail Shield Settings>Main Settings switching off “Scan inbound mail (POP3, IMAP4)”, TB again starts working properly when I “Get All New Messages”.

I don’t know if this is related, but since installing Avast 8, I occasionally have problems with gadgets crashing - typically Network Monitor.

By the way I have 5 POP and 2 IMAP accounts set up in TB. My PC is Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, also because the the PC is home built it has never had the typical crapware or any other antivirus s/w or firewalls installed. The only exception is that I am also using MBAM Pro.

I’ve currently got inbound and outbound mail scanning set to off to alleviate the problem. I don’t know what to try now though, as I’ve already clean installed avast.
