Problems with Windows media player and IE 32bit after uninstall

Hey,

I installed AVAST! pro trail version. After atrail periud I uninstalled AVAST! pro and installed AVAST! home edition.
after I uninstalled Avast pro Windows media player stoped work. when I tried to open it open task wmplayer.exe and close it. when I try to run any media file (mp3, avi …) I got a message “Server execution failed” (see Servers execution failed.jpg). When I did System Restore the problem was gone untill I uninstall the avast again.
If I open media files trought windows media center, the media is playing and wmplayer.exe is running.

I am using windows 7 64bit.

I have a problem in Internet Explorer 32 bit. After uninstall avast pro not all sites are running on it. facebook doesn’t load, forums doesn’t work ect.
In IE 64bit everything works well.

I tried to turn Windows media player and IE on/off in program and features but it doesn’t help. Restarting the service of windows media player networking doesn’t help too.

What can I do to solve the problem?

Thank ahead
Alex

Did you remove Avast with the Avast uninstal tool or did you do it through the add remove programmes.I am guessing you did not use the uninstal tool.If so take a look here.YoKenny kindly posted a uninstal list for most A.V.s including Avast.

It shouldn’t matter which uninstall method was used as avast doesn’t change file associations, etc. So I’m not really sure what is going on here.

when I try to run any media file (mp3, avi ...) I got a message "Server execution failed" (see Servers execution failed.jpg).

So to me this seems like the file associations are wrong, where an mp3 is trying to be opened as if it were a jpg, etc.

You could try opening your Media Player and try and reset the file associations you want associated with the player.

You shouldn’t have had to uninstall the Pro Trial, and then install the Home version, all you needed to do was register for the Home version and a registration key would be sent to you. Entering that key into the about avast (License Key) would convert the Pro trial to the Home version.

Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

The reason I ask is some of the symptoms could be related to that.
