Product Key - No place to put it.

I’ve just installed Avast 4 on my sons laptop (Windows Vista). It is totally different to my version of Avast (4.8) in layout and operation and has nowhere to put product key. The box came up once and I didn’t have his key so left intructions on how to add it. The box has never apeared again. I have tried downloading Avast 4 several times and same thing happens.

It also has an ‘orange’ ball for the on access scanner instead of ‘blue’ as instructions state (as my version has). There is also no VRDB ball with the ‘i’ on it.

What I am guessing that you mean is that you have installed avast! 5, the most recent release of avast! (just 4 days ago ;)) and so the faqs need updating somewhat…

To register the free version:

Open avast! GUI (left click the tray icon) → maintenance → registration

You should then see a form to fill out to register.

The VRDB has been dropped in avast! 5 so I wouldn’t worry about not having that…

I updated my version from 4 to 5 and realised that what had happened and I’m a registered user, so I suppose my product key is still valid for version 5 because when I follow the instructions it says mine is registered.

The same thing happens on my sons, and will not accept his product key so I re-registered him to see if they would send out another product key that would work. It says he’s registered, but when he boots up a box appears saying he hasn’t installed the product key and when you click on it, it just disappears.

Scott, I forgot to mention that the instructions that come with the produnt key say Version 4 and are for that version, so Avast has obviously not updated their instructions.
