Product questions

Hi there,

  1. If I upgrade to a paid version and have your paid version running on my computer, what happens if get a different/new computer after the fact? How does my “subscription” translate over?

  2. I have four computers in my house running off a modem, with 3 of the 4 using it in a wireless mode. Do I have to pay for and get avast on each computer if I want the protection, or is there a package deal for such situations? Right now I have the home free version on them all.

If you are only using one version, e.g. uninstalled/removed from old system then yes the License key is transferable to the new one. The remaining period of the license would be usable on the new system.

You would obviously have had to have saved the email with the License key in it and copy that to new system (using, CD/USB, etc.).

Thank you, David. Got you on the license key thing and getting it on to the new computer.

Forgive me, but I am still not sure in regard to multiple computers in the house sharing one internet access. Do separate licenses need to be purchased for each computer in the house?

You can only run the Pro version on one computer, it is a one license per system option.

You could look at the avast Professional Family Pack option (http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-professional-family-pack.html)where you get 10 licenses for pretty much the same cost as the stand alone Pro license…

The Free Home version registration key (notice the subtle difference, not license) can be used on more than one system provided it complies with the Home, Non-commercial use (both must apply).

There we go. Thanks! That is the type of info/solution I was looking for.

Finally, if you know … After I buy the family pack … I assume I would go to each computer, then log into an avast account, and download it. Fine, but

  1. Do you know if I am supposed to uninstall the free home version I currently have on the system before I download the new licensed one?

  2. I am still getting pop ups from Norton and McAfee items that expired. Should I uninstall Norton and McAfee before downloading the avast software?

Thanks in advance for all your help …

Unfortunately I’m not familiar with it (I’m just an avast user like yourself), the other systems would just have the standard Pro version installed and the licenses are deployed via one control. Thought there isn’t a great deal of information on that link I gave you.

I don’t know if you need to install the avast! WHS Edition on one system you consider the main/controlling (administrators) system or if this version can only be installed on the Windows Home Server OS.

You could seek clarification at sales @ avast (dot) com asking how to install and deploy the license.dat file (as it doesn’t use the same license number style of application) that you would receive by email to the other systems.

I tried to find a user guide but finding hens teeth is easier as I couldn’t find one relating to the avast Pro Family Pack.

Thanks David, I will give that email a shot. I appreciated all your help!

You’re welcome, I have tried in another place to try and get an answer to this conundrum.

2) I am still getting pop ups from Norton and McAfee items that expired. Should I uninstall Norton and McAfee before downloading the avast software?
You should download the avast! software first, then Uninstall all other AV's from your system and then install the avast! AV program
