To change username, I typed in the box next to ‘Name - This is the displayed name that people will see.’ My username remains though, and I can’t revert to my previous ‘displayed name that people will see’, as I get the error message ‘The selected username/display name has already been taken.’
I don’t know if this is a restriction of the changing of profile settings (until you have 20 posts) and your changes aren’t saved, so essentially it would revert to the old one. Perhaps that is then reported as already taken.
I don’t know what it is that you are trying to change your user name to, so I can’t search and see if it is actually taken or not ?
Have you tried a more unique name -Dillon- or -Andrew- perhaps With the - either side, neither appear to have been taken. There is an andydillon though if that is what you are trying ?
We can’t see that even in your profile we see the name displayed. The user name is only seen by the user in their profile as that is a part of your logon information.
If you haven’t got access to the profile settings to change the user name then it is because of the restrictions I mentioned in the first post.
As in your case if you use your email address as your user name, the last thing that you want is to have that displayed as your screen name. Otherwise it would be open to harvesting by spambot trawling for email addresses.
Many people don’t use their email address as the user name though (I certainly don’t).
Account login page https://my.avast.com requires email address, while forum login page http://forum.avast.com/index.php asks for username but also accepts email address (which is different in my case). However I log in, ‘Andrew Dillon’ (which is my display name but not username) continues to be whats displayed.
The two are entirely separate there isn’t one login for both as you can monitor more than one avast installation, totally different to the avast support forum.
The forum software ‘SMF’ is more what is dictated in the logon process, where as the my.avast.com is controlled by the avast web design guys.
