Program AutoUpdate even when turned OFF!

Please tell me why my Avast has recently updated ITSELF even though I have the settings to update the program turned off??! This is EXACTLY the sort of invasive activity I DO NOT stand for on my PC. This is the same reason I left AVG and it appears that Avast has followed suit. Please explain to me why this is done and how I can roll my software back to a previous version. Otherwise I WILL NOT be using this program and I will no longer be recommending it to my clients/colleagues.

Oh and that Image veriffication at the bottom is a joke. How can we enter the right info if we can’t even read it ourselves??!

If you were using an older ( outdated ) version of avast you are now forcefully updated, many technologies aren’t supported with the old versions now and avast cant keep providing updates to software that no longer provides you adequate protection.

The captcha is anti spam prevention for the first three posts.

Yea well what happened to Capthca that people can actually READ? And my software was only the previous version. I know it has NOTHING to do with compatibility jumping from the previous version to this one. And if by chance it does have to do with compatibility then please inform me of what exactly needed to be updated that wouldn’t be compatible otherwise.

And just so the folks at Avast know, I run a youtube channel with over 100,000 subscribers who will all be hearing about my recent PROBLEMS with Avast and their invasive forced secret updates.

You must be reading it well enough as you’ve managed to post again

You don’t say what version number you were using?

I didn’t say anything about compatibility…I said avast don’t support older versions anymore, they don’t protect you as well and it’s too much maintenance looking after multiple versions.

congratulations on your youtube followers ::slight_smile:

There is nothing wrong with a security software that updates itself.
It will give you the most up to date protection and protection is what you want/need.
Why complaining?
Do you have a problem with the current version?
If so, tell us and we will try to help you solve it.

You see when I put software on my computer it’s done through my free will. My choice. I can install whatever version I please. I can also choose to have a program update or not. Why is it that even when the setting is set to not update; the program still goes in all secretive and updates itself anyways??! What’s the point of putting the setting to turn it on or off for then anyways???! If I have good protection with the version I am using and all I want to update are virus definitions, why can I not do that?? You better believe that I will not put up with anything FORCED especially done in secret and therefore I will no longer be using avast. It’s the same reason I left AVG. Looks like the now crap avast jumped on the same sellout bandwagon. Shame. avast will be losing lots of present users and future users as well. Enjoy the repercussions of stupid actions.

If I have good protection with the version I am using and all I want to update are virus definitions
That is exactly the point. You HAD good protection, but not as good as you should have. The update corrected that. Besides that, all av vendors nowadays are using streaming updates.

My Youtube channel has had in excess of 1000000 views and I’m proud of it. I don’t use it to threaten anyone. Highly doubt that threats are part of what
Google condones.
Your program was updated to increase your protection. Protection is why you installed avast! in the first place.
The captchas are only there for the first 3 posts (a spamming protection measure) so they shouldn’t bother you any more.
If something in the new version bothers you, explain the problem and get some help.
Keep in mind that you’re talking to other avast! users unless their title indicates that they are Avast employees.
Stay cool.

I’m talking to people who are defending avast a little harder than your average citizen. I don’t recall threatening anyone? Could you fill me in on that? I did state that I would be letting a large number of people know about my recent experience. Is there a crime in that? You tell me protection is increased while I have a program able to update itself even though I have it set to not update? How is that protection??! I can choose the level of protection I want, I don’t need some program deciding for me or any other human either.

And about the captchas, I understand their purpose but seriously they are a little hard to read. I have done much easier captchas before.

I am explaining what bothered me right here right now.

Crippling your AV is like shortening the fuse on a stick of dynamite.
Steaming updates protects you against the latest discovered viruses.

So if you want to continue playing with fire, be my guest. It’s your computer, not mine.
