Programme updater is not working plus no updates

Avast will not update either the new programme update or new virus definations. The updater is stuck at “initialising, please wait…” and has been for the last two days.

I have Windows XP and Avast version 8.0.1500. My copy of Avast Internet Security is licenced.

Yesterday, I requested assistance from Technical support but have not had a response.

I need to be able to do some work on this laptop so hope somebody can give me some help.

I am reluctant to download the new update (April 14?) as I have read that some people with XP are experiencing problems.

If I do download the uninstaller and the new update how is my licence carried over to the new version?

If you do install the new version from scratch ( which is best imo ) you just install the license from your email as you did with your current version by double clicking on the license file and it should be applied automatically.

Many thanks for your reply. I have found the licence file so that part should be okay. My concern is that the new version will not work with XP.

Is it possible to revert to the previous version? I can’t find 8.0.1500 to download.
