Hey, i downloaded Avast 4.6 home (free), the virus database updates used to automatically download when i connected to the internet as i had auto updates on. however, now it says there is an error and that “the proxy needs authentication” whenever i connect to the internet, im an unsure what to do and any help would be greatly appreciated ;D

Check your proxy settings into avast!:
Left click the avast icon > Settings
Update (Basic) > Details > Proxy
Make sure your browser is not set to “Work Offline” (this option is generally in the File menu).
If it doesn’t help, try switching the proxy settings from “Auto-detect” to “No proxy” (I’m assuming you’re not connecting to the Internet via proxy).
I have this same issue, but i have to go through a proxy for our web defense service that we use. Has anyone had this same issue?
Then you need to find out what those proxy settings are and enter them in the Details Tech mentioned above.
What is this web defence service ?
