Queries on Standalone Avast! Virus Remover Tool

Hi Guys

Does anyone knows whether is it a necessity to remove or uninstall the Standalone Avast! Virus Remover Tool if a newer version is released for download and use?

If it is necessary to remove the older version of the Standalone Avast! Virus Remover Tool before the installation of the newer version, how do we do it? Can it just be done by simply deleting the application within a folder?

Please advice. Thanks!

Conway

If you mean the avast! Virus Cleaner, then it’s not necessary (or even possible) to uninstall it anyhow. It’s a simple .exe file that you can delete/replace.

Hi Igor

Thanks for the reply…clear and sweet!

Btw, another thing need to check with you is that why when you are doing a boot scan with Avast! Home Edition, and on detecting a virus snare, you choose the option of moving the file to the “Moved Folder” in the “Avast Folder”. However, there is a short-coming for this option and that is you cannot restore back to the original folder where it was moved from. Totally very different from the “Chest Folder” feature. Supposedly, the “Chest Folder” should be the most safest place to store any suspected files infected with viruses, nonetheless, it was not being moved there instead. No matter how I try to change the path of moving the infected file to the “Chest Folder”, it is futile. Do you think you can advise me on this matter?

Once again, Thanks!

Conway

The CHEST probably can’t work in a boot-time (“pre-OS”) scan, because the avast services/drivers aren’t loaded (someone correct me if I’m wrong here…)

but by saving the report/log or just noting the path/folder/filenames handled, you should be able to restore files anyhow
