Yes, I am new to this forum, I actually signed up because of one question…
Does the “Avast Virus Database has been Updated” voice sound more girly? Like more realistic?
I was just wondering because well… Why does it have to be a girls voice? Oh, and its pretty loud to, so when its randomly popping up, if I’m watching a movie or whatever, its startling… Its really bad if I’m watching a scary movie and its one of those suspenseful moments…
Is there any way to change it to a man’s voice, and silence it if I am using Media Player, or watching a DVD?
I actually prefer the male voice myself from the v.4.0, but Avast decided to go with the female voice instead. If you do a forum “search,” you will find that there are ways to change the voice by adding the older v.4.0 male voice. As for the volume, you could try changing your setting in the main GUI to “Turn game mode ON” while you are watching a movie; just remember to turn it off when you are done to see if this helps.
Of course you can shut off the female’s voice completely.
Follow the path here:Settings->Sounds
For pop-up.I think you can follow SafeSurf’s advice.Just enable the silent mode and no one will disturb you when watching full screen movies or playing full screen games.
The only problem with turning the sound off completely is that she will get no warning other than a visual warning (hopefully she is in front of the monitor to see). For example if there is malware. I think the best option is for her to download the v.4.0 male voice, which is more soothing, but this is up to the OP.
About the volume part of the question/answers, I think that the suggestions are only “workarounds”, but not solutions.
I mean, the “answer” seem to be to completely avoid the voice, using one of several methods. All those methods have their “cons” (which, IMHO, are far more important than the “pro” in this case).
The question, aside from setting it to male/female, is about “volume”. The “evident” workaround is to lower the volume of the system (not only for “Avast voice”) :P, but my guess is that this is not the real answer the OP was looking for.
Unfortunately, I don’t know the real answer. If someone knows how to change the volume of (only) Avast notifications, I would also like to know it.
Not strictly true. With Windows 7 (vista too?) if you open the audio mixer (right click the speaker icon in the tray) you can change the volume of the avast sounds.
You have to do this short after avast has made a sound.
I don’t know what “soundpacks” is, but I won’t need them ;). That trick indeed worked under Vista 32 bits, and the volume is now more adequate for me. Thanks.
@bhdubclub (Amanda), if you can change the volume by this method, and you can change the voice to the old one as already explained, then this topic should be “[RESOLVED]”. If that’s the case, maybe you should go to your open post in this topic and edit the topic’s name (subject), writing “[RESOLVED]” (without quotation marks) in front of (before) the current topic name (subject).
