question about USB ports and firewire ports!

How can I find out, whether or not my computer has a firewire port?

How can I find out if my computer uses 2.0 USB or 1.1? Becuase don`t some computers use both?

Sorry, I`m not an expert at computers :-[ :-[

Read your motherboards manual.

You can go to Control Panel > System > Hardware > and browse the hardware you have.
Right clicking an item you’ll see its properties.

also a firewire port should be easy to spot (I attached a picture of the firewire Ports on one of My Computers)
and if you have a firewire port it is a firewire 400 port, as I dont know of any windows PC maker that had adopted firewire 800 yet (I think there are PCI cards avaliable though)

Regarding USB. If you have Hi-Speed text anywhere near USB ports you have USB 2.0 Otherwise you have 1.1. Also reading motherboard manual should clear this up.

I have a firewire port…no idea what it is though…and before anyone says it…I did not get a manual with the pc…

Firewire is a way to connect ecternal devices to your PC or Mac (much like USB), Frewire 400 is around the same speed as USB 2.0 and is the most common, Firewire 800 is less common (found only on high end Mac sytems and on some PCI cards for PCs) it is 800kbps as opposed to 400kbps of Firewire 400 9 note that is the max speed the speed you get may be lower)

Thanks MAC… How do I know what devices I have that I can plug into it???

If male fits into female, that’s it Suszannah… now that wasn’t hard, was it ? Just like in real life… ;D ;D

lol…what can I say to that… ;D ;D

Well what can I say… that port has unique shape, so you can’t go wrong about that… there is no chance you can stick a USB male cable into Firewire port… that could be comparable to… for example… female Giraffe and… maybe… male Pelican umghhhh ??? ;D ;D ;D ;D

Suszannah,
External hard Drives and Optical Drives are the most comon Firewire devices. And like Sasha Said, its impossible to sitck a USB cable in a firewire port.

Thanks for the information, as I have neither of these things…it won’t be used very much…(if at all)… ;D ;D

THERE WE ARE THEN…I believe is the correct response, Susz… ;D
