Maybe some setting is bringing back to custom…
What if you set the High level, close the settings dialog, disable the antivirus protection, boot…
What do you get on next boot?
what i have seen the resident protection is set to custom every time i connect to the windows because the script blocking is set to normal…How can i set it 4ver to high in order to resident protection to be high every time i open the pc?
There is no meaning on changing the level on the Script Blocker.
See the help file:
Script Blocking - Provider Settings
Script Blocking provider is a module protecting your computer against script viruses from web pages. Some web pages might contain a script virus. Normally, running such a virus should not have any consequences, because the scripts are run in a protected mode that prevents them from accessing any files. However, there is a theoretical possibility that you might get infected this way (somebody may find a browser bug that will be exploited by the virus). It is the reason for avast! checking the web pages scripts.
Normal. The setting does not have any meaning for this provider.
High. The setting does not have any meaning for this provider.
The Standard Shield settings are NOT changed by other providers level but it depends on its own settings. Well, as far I know ;D
If you change anything in the Scanner (Advanced), Blocker or the Advanced tabs from the default settings, then the inherent sensitivity/security may change and if so this will mean that the overall setting for standard shield will change to custom. The only way to restore this is to restore the default settings.
So did you change anything in the Scanner (Advanced), Blocker or the Advanced tabs ?
As Tech said the other provider settings shouldn’t effect standard shield’s sensitivity.
i didnt change anything in the script blocking settings…how can i set all options in the on-access control back to default?
We know, just trying to say that it doesn’t matter (for this provider) change the slider (sensitivity).
Very unfortunatelly, very unfortunatelly, only uninstalling and reinstalling again…
You could try RejZoR’s AEC avast! External Control program it has a function to restore default avast settings.
Living and learning…
Trying not to forget things in the middle of the way ;D
I runned the tool i rebooted my pc…I opened avast and i saw that the resident protection was set to disabled.I tried to set it to high but gave me an error with title:connection fail of Odbc microsoft access ,saying:many processes, customers…What is going on?
edited:i unistalled and reinstalled avast…i saw the resident protection was set to standard.I set it to high i rebooted my pc but its again in custom.Anyway what i want you to do if u can is try this tool u told me,reboot ur pc and tell me if this serious problem exists for you.Secondly to tell me why this problem happened to me.And thirdly to set the resident protection to high ,reboot and see if it set to custom. Thanks
It looks like the reason it has happened is it set defaults back to a database storage option that has now changed. Previously a number of people experienced problems with the Microsoft ODBC method and that has recently been changed. So it looks like RejZoR hasn’t updated this part of the tool he designed.
Not that it is applicable now you have reinstalled:
To correct you would need Edit the avast4.ini file, “C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\avast4.ini” in the [common] section of avast4.ini find the line Database=ODBC and change that to Database=SQLT if that doesn’t exist create the new line.
Edit: Partition Path changed to default C:\
i havent understood.Does this problem exist for you too or to just a few ppl?
why do u tell me to do this??to fix the problem i have with the resident protection?
Since version 4.7.807 a new data storage called SQLT is used by avast! Which version are you using?
Did you try uninstalling, boot, install again?
4.7.844 i am using.
why are u asking me unistalling reboot and then reinstall?I did this and avast works now.Could i solve the problem with on access protection control programs doing what Davidr told me??
does this problem happen to all ppl using this tool? Also does this thing with setting the resident protection to high rebooting and then being to custom happens to you too?
Previously the only way to get back to the default settings was to uninstall, reboot and install. RejZoRs AEC tool made this easier, unfortunately the recent change in the database storage method isn’t catered for in the current version of RejZoR’s AEC.
No, don’t run the AEC tool, the only reason for that was to avoid the uninstall, reboot and install, since you have done that you don’t need to do it.
so the 2 solutions for that were:
1)to unistall and reinstall
2)run the tool and then do this:
Not that it is applicable now you have reinstalled:
To correct you would need Edit the avast4.ini file, “D:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\avast4.ini” in the [common] section of avast4.ini find the line Database=ODBC and change that to Database=SQLT if that doesn’t exist create the new line.
Right?Anyway sorry for not understanding and making you perhaps angry but this problem with the tool without editing the file exists for all users right??Also the other problem which was happening when changing the resident protection from custom to high i was rebooting but it was changed t o custom does it happen to you? That’s all i want to know
In C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\avast4.ini in the [Common] section the line Database=SQLT
is the default on the latest version and must be there. If AEC removes or change this, you should correct it manually.
P.S. RejZor, can’t you take a look it the ‘new’ behavior is the default for AEC? Thanks.
Thanks Tech, Yes that is the correct default path to C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\avast4.ini, mine if in a different partition and I forgot to change the D: to C:
I would be good if RejZoR coulf update the new default settings in AEC 8) .
Pls answer to me for what i said in my previous post
As you siad you have uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled avast then you don’t have to do anything else. That would achieve your aim of restoring the avast defaults.
