Hello,
We are currently deploying Avast for the first time and are replacing Symantec Corp Edition for one of our customers. All was going very well until the last 2 netclient installs.
Our customer has 14 machines (mix of desktops and laptops) in 3 offices. The 3 offices are in 3 different cities. The 3 offices are connected by permanent VPN connections between Netgear routers.
The main office has a SBS2003 server. All 3 offices login to the domain thru this server and all 3 offices also get their dhcp licenses from this server. The ADNM console and server client are installed on this server and have had no problems at all. The more I dig into the ADNM, the more impressed I am.
We performed the discovery task and all the computers in 2 offices were found by the discovery task and none in the 3rd office. The 3rd office has 3 desktop PCs with P4 processors (2.2GHz & up), 256MB RAM and running Windows XP SP2 and all the Windows updates.
We decided to add the 3 computers in the 3rd office manually and had no problems doing so. We were able to do push installs of the netclient to 2 of the computers and just had not had the time to install the 3rd computer. After installing the netclient and rebooting, both computers showed up in the “Computers with Agent” group and were showing green icons. We were very happy at this point! However, a short time later, one of the users reported that she could not print email from Outlook 2003 or print pages from IE6. We also found that the Windows Update page was blank and that a web site that allows uploading of files was not working also.
After trying different things, i.e., uninstalling and reinstalling IE6 & trying “detect and repair” in Office 2003, the problem remained. We decided to uninstall the Avast netclient and still the problem remained. We then decided to do a Windows repair and this fixed the problem.
We then decided to try on one PC to install the Avast Pro version just to see if the problem occurred again. It did not. Our next step is to try the netclient version again but we decided to research the forums first. We have found posts about not uninstalling Symantec Antivirus completely prior to installing Avast. We had installed Avast without uninstalling SAV first, just disabling the services. So we will uninstall SAV first even though we previously installed the netclient on 4 computers in the main office without running into this problem.
Our question is, even though the computers may not be found during the discovery task, this should not cause the problem described above, correct? Also, what would the recommended method of installation be, push or MSI install?
Any other advice will be greatly appreciated.
