Questions and Avast Pro 4.6

Hello!

I’m currently running a test of ADNM and avast for the eventual deployment onto our corporate network later this year. So far, I’ve gotten ADNM running with a few clients in a test setup.

First, I noticed that Avast Pro has gone to 4.6 (from 4.5). When will this be reflected in the managed version? Or won’t it? Just trying to confirm how program updates work and any correlation between the standard pro client and the managed one

Also, I tried starting from scratch with the Beta version of ADNM, but had connectivity problems – the clients never could see the ADNM server (something about port 6011 or 6002 I think not being found). Going back to the original ADNM version fixed the problems (I don’t run exchange, so I wasn’t too concerned about that problem).

If you need me to, I could reload the beta again and get that going in our test environment. We are using VMWare so we can easily “revert” back to our pre-loaded state for testing purposes and deployment fun ;D

Otherwise, I find this to be a great replacement for our very trouble-prone Symantec Corporate Edition we plan to junk this coming July

The way we do it is usually as follows.
First, the new product is tested internally by our testers.
Next, we have a public beta program (2-4 weeks) of avast Home/Professional - usually about 100 people participate.
After that we have a release of avast Home/Pro (that was the one last Saturday, for the case of avast 4.6). Then (unfortunately) we have 1-2 “fix” releases in the timeframe of 2 weeks (unfortunately, there’re just two many diverse configurations out there so its simply not possible to test everything).
Finally, we release an update to the Server Edition and the managed clients. By this time, everything should be super-stable

What beta are you refering to, exactly? There’s just too many of them

That would be great. BTW how large is your network?

Thanks

Thanks. That clears that up. I figured you’d be on a different realease schedule.

I don’t remember which beta it was now, either  I can try it again when I get a chance – currently we are having switch and bandwidth performance issues to deal with. Our network is currently about 50 PC’s and 6 servers. We also have a number of other devices and operating systems on the network – we do a lot of development for manufacturing factilities. It also can grow quite a bit (20 more pc’s, and maybe 2-3 servers) depending on projects we may be working on at any one time.
