As of two days ago, I can no longer save quick scan report files outside the default directory. Until then, setting a complete path name with “Settings\Report file” would save the report at the specified location; now, the file name set there is used, but the file is always saved in the default directory (in my case, “C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\report”).
I’m afraid this is an intentional change in the latest version. There was a significant security problem connected to the old behavior and this was the only way to fix it properly.
So yes, you can create the report file only in the report folder (or its subfolder) now.
If you want to redirect the report files somewhere else, you can create a string value called ReportFolder in avast! registry key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AVAST Software\Avast) and point it to the desired location. But again, all report files (for all scans) will then be created in that folder.
Thanks for the info, igor. I’m sure it’s not your job, but: a little “heads up” on a change like that, purposefully breaking previous functionality, would have been nice. ???
…oh, and: avast! apparently won’t let me create that new string value in the avast! registry key, even with all shields disabled. Sugestions? -JW
One other note on this: if you use “ReportFolder” to change the report file’s directory, it will be created there, but the “Show report file” link on the “Scan” screen will still look in the directory specified by “DataFolder”, and thus be unable to find the report file. -JW
