Hi,
I’ve just installed Avast 4.5, but have a curious experience that I’d like some help on.
I’ve got a couple of word files that I’ve created myself saved in a folder.
If I right click on one of these files and do a scan with the Quick Scanner, it reports ‘Number of files tested - 2’…I’m definately only clicking on one of the files - what gives?
I’ve also got a single .jpg here that is reporting 3 files when tested!!!

This has been explained in another thread also, but basicly it is like this.
Avast also counts the files within an “archive”. So what you are experiencing is perfectly normal.

But how can 1 word file be called ‘an archive’ - and how can 1 .jpg be reported as 3 files checked?
Can you direct me to that other thread?
Using Avast from the Simple User Interface reports the CORRECT number of files checked.

I just tried and it works correctly for me…
Could you send me the file reported as 3 files? What OS do you use?

Hi,
I’d rather not send the file, it’s a picture of some of my family members.
However, I’ve reverted to using AVG.
I’ve checked the file with AVG, Avast and Kaspersky - it is not infected, but this seems to be a bug in the Quick Scanner.
Thank you,
Simon.

I'd rather not send the file
Igor is the only one who will see it and he doesn't care what is on that picture. He just checks if indeed the counting is wrong or not, that's all.
See him as a priest or a doctor. What is on the picture will be treated as confidential.
