Ran "msconfig"_"Diagnostic Startup" Now no "avast!"

To make a long story short I had a problem on my PC :frowning: unrelated to “avast!” and had to run “msconfig” selecting “Diagnostic Startup” in order to fix the problem and delete some files ::slight_smile: After fixing the problem and selecting “Normal Startup” in “msconfig” then rebooting i now don’t have avast! in the system tray nor is it running in the back ground according to “Task Manager” :frowning: Going back into “msconfig” and checking the “Startup” tab I noticed that “ashDisp” was UNCHECKED ??? so I checked it then rebooted again into “Normal Startup” with no success :frowning: Again no avast! in the system tray and “ashDisp” was AGAIN UNCHECKED in “msconfig” :frowning: so i tried it AGAIN with the same results, NO avast! >:( Can anyone shed some light on this problem of mine as I just cant seem to figure it out

P.S. I tried using the “Update” and “Repair” option through “Add and Remove Programs” also with no success.

So what was this unrelated problem ?

What actions did you take in the next “Diagnostic Startup” and what files did you delete ?

It may be easier and quicker to do a clean reinstall with the latest avast version (4.8.1290).
Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.

  1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.
  2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot. If step 1 failed it may be necessary to run this from safe mode, once complete reboot into normal mode.
  3. install the latest version, reboot.

Problem solved it’s self ;D I didn’t do anything different but on the advice fo a friend (Thanks Tatiana mwa :-*) all i did was Boot–turn off–boot–turn off about 10 times and it self fixed :o…Things that make you go----hmmmm :stuck_out_tongue: If ALL PC problems could be fixed that way eh ;D

Yes, computers can’t live without them, can’t like with their quirks ;D
