Raxco Perfectdisk not compatible with 6.0.1203

which shield is causing the problems with Perfectdisk?
is it the behaviour shield or file system shield (or something else) ?

There are other posts about Perfectdisk - try a search
I am using V11 without problem

That only seems to happen on XP systems.

The problem is apparently only with PerfectDisk 12. Version 11 doesn’t have OptiWrite feature…

No, others reported problems with version 7/8/11.
But all on XP.

Here also, with PerfectDisk 11 and the latest Avast update. Exiting the PD-11 tray icon gave me my system back but with both running the disk activity light was on almost constantly.

Also on XP, I guess…??

Either way, it’s a problem that needs to be checked.

Sure…!!
That’s why we are posting/reporting the issue here.

Ah, yes. XP SP3 with up-to-date MS patches. Also, Comodo firewall and SuperAntiSpyware.

But the apparent issue does seem to be just between Avast and PD-11. Turning off the Avast real-time shields makes PD-11 normally responsive, and turning off PD-11 (exiting the tray app) but with the Avast shields operating normally allows the rest of the system to behave.

Option 1: Drop PD. Problem solved.
Option 2: Revert back to 6.0.1125 and wait for Avast to fix it.

I have same problem…

New update of avast on XP installed PD12 causes constant harddisk activity…

I bet avast file system shield is incompatible with PD

when I turned off the file system shield, harddisk activity came back normally

Also on XP…??

Hi RejZoR
Have you got the latest SP for V12 (build 275) out today
Never know

If this should fix it (for V12), please let me know.

I went with Option 2, since I did have the installation file for 1125 in the archives. All back to normal, now.

Thanks for the feedback…!
Hope that this gets fixed soon.

As in this thread:
Confirming this on two XP SP3 systems running avast! 6.0.1203 (ond free, one professional) and PerfectDisk 11 (and 12).

Regards

General comment about PD11 and PD12

PD11 or PD12 IMO is problematic when using it with XP whether this problem is avast! related or not.

If you go back and read Raxco’s PR on PD11 they say that it was designed for Windows 7 and not XP. I would imagine that PD 12 is also designed for Windows 7 and not XP.

There are numerous software related issues that arise from using the latest releases of software with XP.

The XP kernel design is over a decade old.

Just saying.

Bollocks i say. If it installs on WinXP then it has to be compatible. If it wasn’t, then they’d block the installation in the first place. Besides, it worked just fine before avast! build 1203. So it’s not PD12 that’s at fault.
